Cola Up gummy revival from Meiji

Continuing with a general nostalgia trend that we’ve been feeling lately, confectionary company Meiji is re-releasing “Cola Up” a bottle shaped gummy candy popular during the 1980s.

While the treat was originally designed for children, this time around Meiji is targeting the adults in their 20s to 40s who would have grown up with the candy. The tenacious cola bottle character remains the same, however the packaging and flavor have been updated to suit more adult tastes.

“Cola Up,” will be available from January 8 only in the Kanto region, for 148¥ a pack.

  2. It strikes me as somewhat odd, that when you are trying to sell it using nostalgia, you change both the packaging and the taste. There isn’t much left of the old product. I would have thought keeping the funky 80s design a much better idea. Then again, I’m no expert.

  3. They DO have these in the states, sold under the name “happy cola”.

My band (http://www.myspace.com/rain42music) swears by Happy Cola. We seriously have a bag ready to go before performances and practices. I am pretty sure it started as a joke, but we all wound up completely hooked on them.

  6. I found these in a H-Mart I LOVE THEM! After the nasty banana animal cracker taste of Haribo’s Cola gummies I was sworn not to eat cola candies EVER again! But I found these they were in a small packaging so I thought if I did not like them it would not be a total waste of throwing it away. I ate them in the car, they tasted some what similar to Haribo’s but then the cold sensation came into my mouth, and I completely fell in love with these!
