Homestar EX from Sega Toys
Written by: Michael Keferl on June 19, 2008 at 6:55 pm | In Technology & Gadget Trends |UPDATE: The official name has now become the Homestar EXTRA, and it’s coming out in December 2008!
UPDATE #2: The Homestar Extra is now available online
For our first post from the first day of the 2008 International Tokyo Toy Show, we are proud to introduce the latest in Sega Toys’ Homestar home planetarium series. Yeah, they just debuted the Homestar Spa in the last couple of weeks, but the Homestar EX is poised to be the Pro-version of the…err…Homestar Pro? (product page link)

Though it won’t be released until the end of the year, the Homestar EX uses large star discs, is a much higher-quality home planetarium than anything else in the Homestar series, and is bright enough to see the stars clearly with the lights on in the room! Other new features include a digital multi-function remote control, and a truly random (not fixed) shooting star function.
Of course, such high celestial technology doesn’t come cheap. While no price has been determined, the Homestar EX is expected to sell for over $800 when released.
Update: Now available here!

This is funny. There is a sign with “No Photo Allowed”, but here is the photo taken on this item. :-)

I had a press pass, so no worries :-) The no photo rules are EVERYWHERE at the toy show.

Do you think you will be selling this? If so put me down for one. I got the homestar pro from you and love it, any word on if the disks will be backwards compatable?

I’m positive that JapanTrendShop will have them as soon as they come out, though the disks aren’t compatible because they’re much larger and more detailed. Stay tuned!

Does anyone know ,does the the new EX model project the planets, this could not be part of the disk, due to retrograde motion.
The projector looks like another winner for Sega
It would also be cool if one could buy seperate upgrades, like a computer, such as a planet projector. just some thoughts from USA
Computer control USB ports?

Hello, i just bought the HomeStar Pro, it’s not bad. But this Ex, hmmm I’ll buy one because i know it’ll be better than the pro. So I can’t wait, whatever $800-$1000 i’ll just have to use the credit card. Please if any one know of a company that can ship me one from Hong Kong Direct with English manual - please send me an email to davidcaldecott@googlemail.com, or if you want a review on The Home Star Pro. Please feel free to drop me an email. I am looking forward to this beast shining up my ceiling and walls’ lol. Sega Toys are good, but over priced. Love Orasa & David. x
