Mimi Kurin: Ear Cleaning Trends with EarScopes
Written by: Michael Keferl on November 10, 2006 at 11:27 am | In Fashion & Lifestyle Trends |Since the advent of the EarScope endoscopes from Coden, and their huge rise in popularity in Japan, they are beginning to be used on a huge scale around Japan in beauty salons, spas, and even special salons focused purely on ear cleaning!
Coden’s EarScope series allows the users to view the insides of their ears with a special LED-lit cleaning tip that transmits the image via fiber optic cable. The image is bright, easy to navigate with, and allows the user to clean every little corner. Video adapters are also available, thereby freeing your other hand and letting you relax even more as you watch the monitor.
Ear-cleaning shops called Mimi Kurin (耳クリン) have begun to spring up around Tokyo in malls and shopping centers, with many more on the way. By using the latest EarScopes from Coden, customers can relax and have their ears cleaned while watching on a video screen. It costs about $8.50 per ten minutes, and includes other ear services plus massage. CScout Japan’s Sven Kilian took a trip this week to check it out for himself (pics below).

Besides being great for salons wanting to offer better services, people who experience the scopes find that they want to have them at home as well. It makes sense, as the ears are one of the hardest places to see, and once people see how dirty it gets in there they want to be able to see and clean them easily anytime.
