NTT Hikari Home Camera has interactive mobile, internet controls
Written by: Michael Keferl on August 7, 2007 at 1:38 pm | In Technology & Gadget Trends |NTT has just released a new home security system that makes it possible to control a robotic camera in your home and stream live video to a remote location. The HC-1000 Hikari Home Camera can be controlled multi directionally, rotating 300 degrees horizontally and 120 degrees vertically. Using the internet, videophone, or FOMA mobile handset, the user can freely control the camera, zoom, take photos, or activate a powerful LED flashlight. Internal sensors detect movement and send photo updates, and a built-in speaker and microphone makes it possible to listen in and communicate if needed. Click for video from Nikkei Net.

This is being billed as a full home security system, with multi-camera capabilities and optional accessories such as window/door sensors, a 90db alarm, and even temperature control. However, the HC-1000 can be practical even for basic operation such as two-way communication with pets and loved ones. We’ve seen pet communicators in the past, but the lack of controls made them completely impractical. This changes that.

Of course, in typical NTT fashion, the whole set looks incredibly boring, but the technology itself is amazing. At ¥29,400 ($250) for the camera, and up to ¥141,750 ($1,200) for a complete home plan, this kind of security may be a pretty good deal for those who need it.
