Just for golfers: Energy drink, Rain gear
Written by: Rebecca Milner on May 20, 2008 at 11:17 pm | In Fashion & Lifestyle Trends | 1 CommentAs supplements and health drinks continue to specialize to the most niche degree (remember the gamer supplements?), Dydo Drink Co. brings us Nice On, an energy drink that is intended specifically for golfers.

This guarana flavored carbonated drink contains extracts of ginko leaf, hihatsu pepper, and maca root, which are thought to improve strength, blood flow, and concentration while fighting fatigue. The idea is to knock back one of these 190ml cans to refresh before attempting a tough shot.
The canned drink is targeted at middle aged and up men, of the likes who are in habit of drinking canned coffee on a regular basis, and will sell for the same ¥120 at golf-related areas.
In other golf related news, Yokohama Rubber Co.’s golf wear brand, PRPG has created a series of high performance rain proof golf apparel, New Rain Compo.

Designed for maximum mobility and water protection, the jacket and pants don’t come cheap (¥24,150 and ¥19,995, respectively) but will allow hardcore golfers to weather the upcoming rainy season.

Sport meets fashion at Hollywood Golf boutique
Written by: Rebecca Milner on March 29, 2008 at 6:18 pm | In Fashion & Lifestyle Trends | No CommentsIf you still need convincing that golf is fashionable in Japan, check out the newest trendy boutique, Hollywood Golf, in the chic Aoyama shopping district.

Hollywood Golf features the T-Line Rosasen line-up of golf wear, a fashionable alternative to the standard less then exciting golf attire. With thousands of wannabe pros shelling out big money to swing Callaway like Momoko Ueda or sport Le Coq Sportif like Sakura Yokomine, the brand-name golf business does well in Japan.

According to the shop manager, the most popular items among the mostly young women who have visited the new shop are the colorful polo shirts trimmed with ruffles and the brand’s signature skull with golf club cross bones.

While none of the pros have been spotted wearing the brand yet (um, I think you have to sponsor them first), the future success of the boutique among young women was secured by a mention in hit-maker magazine An An this month. In fact, some of the cute accessories might actually inspire a few women to pick up the game.

Nail art golf gloves for trendy gals
Written by: Rebecca Milner on March 1, 2008 at 10:43 pm | In Fashion & Lifestyle Trends | No CommentsYoung female golfers in Japan are fashionable. Need proof? Check out these new Fit 39 Nail series of golfing gloves from Mic Golf designed to allow the wearer to show off their artfully manicured nails.

Made of sweat-absorbing easy-fit stretch nylon and with a slip-resistant synthetic leather grip these gloves are as serious about the game as they are cute, just like golf superstars Ai Miyazato, Sakura Yokomine, and Momoko Ueda (pictured left to right).

These young ladies of golf, all barely 20 and already millionaires, have transformed the tired old game of their fathers into a trendy sport for girls. Decked out in cute and sporty get-ups courtesy of their sponsors (major international golf and sportswear companies), they have celebrity and fashion icon status, not to mention thousands of loyal fans.
Considering that highly decorated nails are de rigueur for fashionable gals, we anticipate that these gloves will be a hit on the greens come golf season.
¥1,995 from Mic Golf
